I recently became enamored of Ricky Martin’s new single, “Vida” and decided to compare it to his last big hit about vida (life) – 1999’s “Livin’ la Vida Loca”…the comparison highlights a definite change in Ricky’s lifestyle, which I find entertaining because I identify with it. No more la vida loca – more like la vida dulce – the sweet life of being older, wiser, more grounded and genuine. And I know there are other secret Ricky Martin fans out there…Janet.
“Livin’ La Vida Loca” lyric snippet:
Woke up in New York City
In a funky cheap hotel
She took my heart and she took my money
She must’ve slipped me a sleepin’ pill
“Vida” lyric snippet:
Negativity is gone
And I’m feeling so good
Cause we, cause we found love
Like life has just begun
Enjoy the laughter and fun
See a difference? A good one?
Then – still-in-the closet Ricky wakes up in nasty hotel after hitting the mattress with a crazy tramp ho. Blech. Phooey. Gross. Can’t say I’ve had the pleasure, but I can say I have woken up in the morning regretting that fifth tequila shot.
Now – upbeat, positive, laughing, loving, enjoying a genuine life. If you watch the video below, this also includes frolicking on the beach, playing soccer, and glowing skin. Nice change, yes?
His look also reflects a much more positive Ricky…
Eww. Who is that? He looks like a Latino George Michael impersonator.
Much better – living life as a real person – father, out of the closet, out of those horrifying sunglasses! Guess growing up isn’t so bad after all…take it away, Ricky, and thank you for aging nicely with the rest of us (you may see an ad before the Ricky Martin video, just bear through it please):
