I love Christmas with all my heart. I enjoy the tree, the decorations, the parties, the family coming together.
But in my secret heart, the New Year is something that I relish. I have never been much for chasing a thrilling New Year’s Eve celebration – I much prefer dinner with friends and family, and taking in midnight with a few loved ones.
But New Year’s day is always exciting to me. It’s all the cliches and more – a blank slate, a fresh start, a new leaf. It is the chance to take stock – take the lessons of the year before and continue progressing towards becoming the best human being I can be. I don’t do resolutions. I do hope – hope that I will be better, love more, be kinder, give more, continue to learn, discover new things, and grow, grow, grow, as person.
Hope is the promise of each New Year, and I hope that everyone I know and love has hopes that come true this year.
“The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.
But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now
mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
