So Cabo saw the oncologist, Dr. Hillers, this week…
Good news: although he has multiple tumors, they are still low grade, which means chemo is not appropriate at this time.
Bad news: although radiation can have excellent results, Cabo is not a good candidate for radiation therapies – he would have to go to the oncologist every day for approximately three weeks, spending nearly all day there. For a fearful dog like Cabo, that would be a case of the cure being nearly worse than the illness.
So, surgery is his best and only option – Monday he goes back to the vet for removal of the two (yes, there are two now) small mast cell tumors that have reared their ugly head since his last surgery.
Sorry, sweet boy…hopefully, this will be the last time. But if not, we’ll all get through it together.
When enemies are at your door
I’ll carry you away from war
If you need help, if you need help
Your hope dangling by a string
I’ll share in your suffering
To make you well, to make you well… ~Phillip Phillips, “Gone, Gone, Gone”
